Exeter Raceway Event

On Saturday, January 31, 2026, we hosted our first Cabin Fever Series Event: Exeter Raceway! We had an amazing turnout. It was a full house! Racing fans and people interested in learning about Exeter Raceway came from all over the state. We had several surprise attendees, including members of Shirley Brooks’ family, who gave us original racing photographs from Exeter; Mark Hoover, who gave us his father’s (Ed Hoover) trophy he won at Exeter in 1961; and candidate for Governor, Senator James Libby, whose family has a history of racing in Maine. Guests were greeted that afternoon with 1950s country music (like what used to be played at the track) and a slideshow of old Exeter Raceway photos. Once everyone had arrived, we started off by viewing a portion of the film, “Speedway Maine,” where our guests could learn about the history of auto racing in Maine. After the film, Paige, owner of Maine’s Lost Speedways, gave an amazing presentation on Exeter Raceway, from its start in 1950 to its end in 1963 and all the details in between with a great collection of photos and information. Partnering with Paige from Maine’s Lost Speedways was certainly our golden ticket for making this event such a success. The racing community in our state is strong, and it recognizes the importance of keeping racing history alive! EHS members supplied the crowd with many goodies. Hot dogs and popcorn were among the options, trying to offer the type of food that would have been served at Exeter Raceway back in the day. The event was recorded and produced by Maine’s Lost Speedways, and the finished video can be viewed on YouTube, “2026 Exeter Raceway Presentation.” This video also includes an interview that Paige had with our cherished member, Dean Stone, who shared some personal stories from his childhood at Exeter Raceway. This event was free to the public. We appreciate everyone’s interest in our mission and these events, and thank you for your support!
